Lucknow — The fourth day of the ongoing district-level junior boys’ and girls’ sports competitions in Lucknow was packed with high-energy action, skillful performances, and multiple inaugurations across different sporting disciplines. As the competitions, being held from July 13 to July 20, gained momentum, Day 4 showcased the commitment and prowess of the city’s young athletes in weightlifting, athletics, volleyball, hockey, lawn tennis, boxing, basketball, and cricket.
The day began with the inauguration of the District-Level Women’s Sub-Junior Hockey Competition at the Mohd. Shahid Hockey Stadium in Vijayant Khand, Gomti Nagar. The event was presided over by Chief Standing Counsel (High Court) and Member of the Bar Council of U.P., Prashant Singh, along with General Secretary of the District Hockey Association, Shri Rajneesh Mishra. The competition is being organized under the guidance of Organizing Secretary Ranjit Raj. Simultaneously, the District-Level Volleyball competition also began at K.D. Singh Babu Stadium, with Atul Sinha, Regional Sports Officer, officiating the opening.
The athletics events were a major highlight, with athletes from across the city competing in track and field events with great fervor. In the junior boys’ 5000m race, Aniket Yadav of K.D. Singh Babu Stadium emerged victorious, followed by Manjeet and Sachin from Chowk Stadium. The girls’ 3000m was won by Mohini from K.D. Singh Babu Stadium, with Preeti and Nandini Verma finishing second and third. The 1500m races also witnessed impressive runs by Shiv Kumar Nishad and Mohini, both from K.D. Singh Babu Stadium, claiming the top positions in the boys’ and girls’ categories respectively. Other standout performers in the athletics segment included Sameer in boys’ 800m, Lalita in girls’ 800m, Harsh Kumar in boys’ 100m and 200m, and Mimansa Tripathi in girls’ sprints. Field events were equally thrilling, with Prince Yadav winning the boys’ javelin throw with a distance of 49.80m, and Sheikh Navija clinching the top spot in girls’ javelin and shot put. In long jump and triple jump, athletes like Aditya Singh, Sonia Sahani, and Kunal Singh demonstrated excellent form, marking their presence among the top finishers.
In the hockey competition, eight teams clashed in riveting matchups. Chowk Stadium defeated Seth M.R. Jaipuria by 4-1, while Khelo India Centre K.D. Singh Babu Stadium got a walkover against Kalicharan Inter College. K.D. Singh Babu Society secured a 2-0 win over Mohd. Shahid Hockey Stadium, and Veer Shivaji Hockey Academy received a walkover from Kendriya Vidyalaya. These matches were intense and showcased promising talent from the grassroots level.
Lawn tennis matches continued at Vijayant Khand Stadium with semi-final matches across various age groups. In the boys’ under-18 category, Faiz Ali dominated with a 6-0 win over Virat Singh, while Sanidhya Dwivedi secured his place in the finals by defeating Aarav Bhaskar 6-3. Under-14 and under-12 categories also saw fierce rallies and strong serves, with Mohd. Ariz, Tejas Singh, Mohd. Hamdan, and Arnav Srivastava making it to the final rounds.
The basketball court at Chowk Stadium witnessed a one-sided final in the junior boys’ category, where Rajkumar Academy outplayed Army Public School with a scoreline of 36-10. Chief Guest and former Railway basketball player Shri Rashid Ahmed applauded the efforts of all players and encouraged them to continue their sporting journey with discipline and determination.

Cricket continued to entertain on Day 2 of the junior boys’ competition at Chowk Stadium. In the first match, Sunrise Panthers scored 43 runs all out, which Kings Raider successfully chased with five wickets down. Granth’s 2-wicket haul and Saif’s 24-run knock were crucial in the win. In the second match, Royal Challenger posted a solid 81 for 6, led by Talha’s 33 runs. In reply, Super Giant were bowled out for 34, with Parakram Pathak delivering a match-winning 3-wicket performance.
Weightlifting events displayed raw strength and technique, especially in the sub-junior and junior categories. K.D. Singh Babu Stadium lifters dominated the podium, with Nikhit Kumar Yadav, Umesh Yadav, Babbi Yadav, and Abhishek Kumar among the champions in various weight classes. Satpal Maurya and Suhail Ahmed also clinched first positions, reflecting the strength of local training facilities.
Boxing bouts were equally action-packed, with sub-junior and junior categories delivering gripping contests. Champion Boxing Academy, Modern Academy, and K.D. Singh Boxing Centre produced multiple winners. In the sub-junior finals, Krishna, Faiyaz, Divyanshu Bisht, Gaurav, and Shreyas showcased excellent technique and composure. Junior category highlights included victories by Puneet Kashyap, Karan, Navneet Singh, Shubham, and Amish Ullah Khan in their respective weight divisions.
As the competitions progress, the level of talent and enthusiasm among the youth is becoming increasingly evident. The vibrant atmosphere and participation across disciplines reflect the success of the District Sports Office and the Sports Department’s efforts in nurturing future champions. With four more days to go, spectators and participants alike are looking forward to more records, rivalries, and moments of sporting glory in the heart of Lucknow.
